Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has expressed heartfelt sympathy to the family of the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, a member of the House of Representatives who represented the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency. Onanuga, widely known as “Ijaya,” passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness. At the time of her death, she served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Green Chamber.
In a condolence message shared late Wednesday night, Governor Abiodun described the late lawmaker’s passing as both devastating and shocking, acknowledging the monumental loss to Ogun State and to Nigeria. The governor praised Onanuga as a fearless leader, a dedicated party member, and a tireless advocate for the welfare of women and her constituents, whose contributions made a lasting impact until her final days.
Governor Abiodun further expressed his sympathy, extending condolences to the leadership of the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and to all members of the lower chamber. He said, “Her death came as a rude shock to all of us in Ogun State. It was both devastating and sudden; we have truly lost an extraordinary amazon.”
The governor also reflected on Onanuga’s courage and loyalty, recognizing her remarkable role in the advancement of her community and the nation at large. He concluded his message by praying for the repose of her soul and for strength for her grieving family.
“May God Almighty rest her soul and grant her family the strength to endure this great loss,” Governor Abiodun added.
