Ogun prison launches search for three fleeing inmates
Three inmates have escaped from Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre in the Ijebu Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Among them were two murder convicts, Hammed Adeboyejo and Fatai Akande. The third fleeing inmate, identified as Aliu Oguntona, was serving a term for sexual offences.
It was learnt that the convicts scaled the facility’s fence on Saturday and ran away.
The state-owned security outfit, So-Safe Corps, Ijebu Imushin Area Command, raised the alarm about the fleeing inmates in a statement on Tuesday.
The security outfit said, “A report reaching us now is that three prisoners escaped from the Ijebu-Ode Correctional Centre, whose names are Hammed Adeboyejo, who was convicted of murder and armed robbery; Fatai Taiwo Akande from Ijebu-Igbo was sentenced for murder; while the third man, Oguntona Aliu, was convicted of a sexual offence.
“Should you see any of them, quickly contact the office of So-Safe Corps close to you; the Nigeria Police or any other security agency.”
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Correctional Service, Ogun State Command, Mr Victor Oyeleke, confirmed the incident, saying it happened around 3 am on Saturday.
Oyeleke said, “Yes, it is confirmed; it happened in the early hours of Saturday around 3 am.
“A search party to bring the three of them back has been raised. We have their biometrics and we have contacts of their families. We are working together with sister agencies and in good time they will be brought back.”
