Ohanaeze Ndigbo President General Pledges Leadership Handover to Rivers State Indigene
Chief Ozichukwu Chukwu, the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has reiterated his commitment to handing over the leadership of the organization to an indigene of Rivers State today. Speaking during a Valedictory Session at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Enugu, Chukwu emphasized that what truly matters is the impact and legacy left by the leadership.
Chukwu pointed out that the millions of Igbo people across the globe are keenly observing the upcoming leadership transition and the quality of leadership that will emerge. He stressed that the leadership to be elected on January 10, 2025, must be remembered for its positive contributions to the Igbo community.
He also assured members that the Screening, Appeal, and Electoral Committees for the forthcoming election are composed of individuals with impeccable integrity and credentials. Chukwu called on the people of Rivers State to ensure that candidates selected for positions in their zone possess proven accomplishments and integrity.
“We all want a vibrant Ohanaeze Ndigbo, an organization led by men and women of honor, moral rectitude, and selfless service,” Chukwu remarked.
In addition to leadership concerns, Chukwu called on the Federal Government to address the growing insecurity in the South East, advocating for the revival of industries to provide employment opportunities for the region’s youth. He emphasized that resolving the insecurity crisis requires both kinetic and non-kinetic approaches.
Chukwu also highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, noting that the future of the Igbo people lies in the hands of their younger generation. He urged all stakeholders to prioritize the needs and aspirations of the youth in order to secure a brighter future for the Igbo community.
Members of the NEC praised Chukwu’s visionary leadership, especially in navigating challenging times, and acknowledged his pivotal role in reshaping the narrative of the Igbo people. They described his tenure as one that left a lasting and positive impact on the organization.
Special commendations were extended to key figures such as Ambassador Okey Emuchay, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia (National Publicity Secretary), and Enwo Igariwey for their outstanding contributions to the success and progress of Ohanaeze Ndigbo during Chukwu’s leadership.
