Okonkwo Accuses Tinubu of Exploiting North for Power in Nigeria
Kenneth Okonkwo, a former spokesman of the Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council, has accused President Bola Tinubu of using the North to secure political power, while leaving the region without meaningful influence. In an interview on TVC News, Okonkwo claimed that while Tinubu appointed individuals from the North to various positions, real power was given to the Southwest.
The veteran Nollywood actor further criticized Tinubu’s approach to religious and ethnic diversity, stating that the president’s actions show a lack of recognition for Nigeria’s pluralistic society. Okonkwo argued that Tinubu’s leadership fails to respect both the country’s religious and ethnic diversity, describing him as “cantankerous to the spirit of diversity.”
According to Okonkwo, the Muslim community in Nigeria is suffering under Tinubu’s administration, pointing out that Muslims were used as pawns in the political game without benefiting from significant power. “It’s about using them to acquire power. He just gave posts to the North without power and gave power to his people,” he stated.
Okonkwo’s remarks highlight his belief that Tinubu’s governance does not adequately address the needs of all religious and ethnic groups, particularly those who supported him in the 2023 elections.
