Omokri Calls El-Rufai’s Ethnic Claims ‘Lies’ But Says Nigeria Needs More ‘Yorubanisation’ for Progress
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has strongly refuted claims by former Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that the cabinet under President Bola Tinubu is being dominated by the Yoruba ethnic group, labeling the allegations as “lies.”
In a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday, December 31, Omokri questioned the credibility of El-Rufai’s statement, while acknowledging that if this so-called “Yorubanisation” of the government is contributing to the country’s rapid development, Nigeria should embrace whichever ethnic group can lead the nation to progress.
He outlined several achievements that have taken place under the current administration, including:
- The revitalization of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries.
- The realization of Local Government Autonomy and student loans.
- The end of passport scarcity and the introduction of a ₦70,000 minimum wage.
- The doubling of federal allocation to states and a significant rise in Nigeria’s stock market, surpassing Zimbabwe as Africa’s most profitable market.
- The commencement of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project and Nigeria’s trade surplus reaching an all-time high of ₦20 trillion in 2024.
Furthermore, Omokri highlighted the administration’s success in tackling insecurity, with the deaths of notorious bandit kingpins like Ali Kachala, Boderi Isyaku, and Sani Dangote, leading to a significant decline in banditry. He also pointed to the end of the crisis around the abduction of schoolchildren and the history of violence against Christian communities in Southern Kaduna.
In conclusion, Omokri quipped that if the progress achieved by this “Yorubanisation” is real, Nigeria should be open to any ethnic group’s influence, be it “Yorubanisation, Hausanisation, Igbonisation, Fulanisation, or any ‘isation'” that propels the nation forward.
