One Dead, Three Injured in Bloody Chieftaincy Title Dispute in Aboh, Delta
A violent clash broke out in Aboh, the headquarters of Ndokwa East Local Government Area in Delta State, during a chieftaincy title conferment procession, resulting in one fatality and three others injured.
The incident occurred as members of opposing factions within the community clashed during the procession, which saw an indigene of Aboh being given a chieftaincy title. Sources suggested the violence could have stemmed from previous disagreements leading up to the event.
The community has been left on edge following the clash, prompting the Chairman of Ndokwa East Local Government, Mr. Vincent Osilonya, to impose a curfew from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM in the area to restore order and prevent further violence.
Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating that the violence erupted when the individual receiving the title, while participating in the celebratory procession, danced into an area controlled by a rival faction. This led to an attack on the procession, with the hunters accompanying the celebrant retaliating in defense.
A community source revealed that those opposed to the chieftaincy title had attempted to disrupt the procession, leading to the violent confrontation. Gunfire ensued, and during the clash, one person was killed, while three others sustained injuries and were hospitalized.
Reacting to the situation, Chairman Osilonya called for calm, urging residents to respect the law and refrain from violence. He confirmed the injuries sustained by three individuals during the altercation and emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving the conflict.
