Onitsha Fire Leaves Shop Owners in Despair, Millions Worth of Goods Destroyed

In Onitsha, Anambra State, a devastating early morning fire tore through several shops near the General Post Office on Ibokwu Street, causing significant damage. The fire, which began in one shop, quickly spread, destroying goods worth millions of naira.

Local eyewitness Mrs. Chidimma Ike reported that residents and passersby attempted to put out the flames, but many shop owners were away celebrating Christmas, leaving the shops unguarded.

One of the affected shop owners, Mr. Chinedu Nnamdi, shared his harrowing experience. Initially, he mistook the smoke for waste burning but quickly realized his shop was engulfed in flames. The fire not only claimed his business but also affected several nearby stores.

The tragic incident has overshadowed Christmas celebrations for many, leaving victims to cope with both financial loss and emotional trauma during what should have been a time of joy.
