Ooni of Ife Expresses Faith in Divine Justice for Ex-Queen Naomi Silekunola

In a heartfelt statement, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has reassured his ex-wife, Naomi Silekunola, that God will see her through the ongoing legal challenges surrounding a tragic incident at a Christmas funfair she organized in Ibadan, Oyo State. The event, intended to bring joy to underprivileged children, turned into a devastating tragedy on December 4 when a stampede resulted in the deaths of 35 children.

Despite the accusations leveled against Silekunola, the Ooni firmly believes that she had no malicious intent. He stressed that her goal was always to bring happiness to children in need, not harm them. “She organized the event with the best of intentions,” Oba Ogunwusi said through his spokesperson, Otunba Moses Olafare.

The legal case surrounding the tragic stampede continues to unfold, with Naomi Silekunola, radio station owner Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, and the principal of the Islamic High School, Ibadan, facing multiple charges, including conspiracy and negligence. Despite the heavy charges, Oba Ogunwusi remains a steadfast supporter of Silekunola, affirming her long-standing commitment to children’s welfare. He acknowledged that, prior to this incident, her previous events, including several held during her time in the palace, had always been safe and successful.

As the court proceedings continue, Silekunola remains in custody. A decision on her bail application is expected by January 13, 2025, after a ruling was deferred by Justice K.B. Olawoyin of the State High Court.
