“Oshiomhole Alleges Senior Military Officers Backing Illegal Mining, Sparks Outrage”
Authorities in Nigeria are facing increasing pressure to act after explosive allegations made by former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Adams Oshiomhole. Oshiomhole claims that high-ranking military officers, including some retired generals, are backing foreign miners, particularly Chinese nationals, in their illegal mining activities across various Nigerian communities.
Speaking on Sparkling FM’s morning program, Let’s Talk Nigeria, Leonard Anyogo, a notary public, urged the federal government not to ignore such serious accusations from a serving senator. He stressed that the government must address the claims to maintain credibility and ensure justice.
In a viral video, Oshiomhole revealed that senior military officials were allegedly behind illegal mining operations in Nigeria, enabling foreign miners to plunder the country’s resources. He said these operatives use helicopters to transport massive amounts of resources, worth billions of US dollars, with little fear of prosecution.
While serving as APC’s national chairman, Oshiomhole stated that he had presented these concerns to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging the president to hold the implicated generals accountable. However, he claimed, Buhari did nothing, leaving the powerful military figures untouched.
Oshiomhole’s remarks have raised questions about the rule of law in Nigeria, particularly regarding the treatment of the powerful elite versus the country’s more vulnerable citizens.
“This is a very serious matter, and these allegations cannot be swept under the rug,” Anyogo emphasized. He called for transparency, suggesting that the names of the implicated generals should be publicly revealed by the Public Prosecution Commission.
In reaction, public calls for action were loud and clear, with citizens expressing outrage and demanding accountability. Many also challenged Oshiomhole to disclose the names of the generals involved, urging him to back his claims with concrete evidence.
