Osun West APC Leaders Call for Equity in Zoning of 2026 Governorship Ticket

Former members of the Osun State House of Assembly from the Osun West Senatorial District, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), have called for equity, justice, and fairness in the zoning of the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election.

This request was made in a communiqué issued after their meeting on January 9, 2025, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital. The communiqué was signed by Ajibola Akinloye, former Secretary and representative of Ola Oluwa local government, along with other prominent former lawmakers, including Debo Akanbi (Ede North), Yemi Taiwo (Ayedaade), Abiodun Awolola (Egbedore), and Bayo Olodo (Ayedaade), among others.

In the statement, the group reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to the APC and its leader, Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy. They expressed strong support for Oyetola’s leadership but stressed the need for equitable representation in the party’s leadership decisions.

The forum emphasized the importance of zoning the 2026 governorship ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. They pointed out that since the return to civilian rule in 1999, the district has not been given the opportunity to field a candidate for the governorship ticket, unlike the other two senatorial districts.

“This imbalance is a matter of equity and justice. It is time for Osun West to have a sense of belonging in the Progressive Party,” they stated in their communiqué.

While advocating for the zoning of the governorship ticket to Osun West, the forum acknowledged the right of Adegboyega Oyetola, as the current leader, to have the “first right of refusal” for the ticket.

The group also called for the immediate resumption of grassroots political activities to strengthen the party’s base and ensure victory over the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2026 elections.
