Otti sacks Abia varsity VC, approves release of white paper on visitation panel

Governor Alex Otti has sacked the Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, Professor Onyemachi Ogbolu, and appointed Professor Ndukwe Okeudo as a replacement.

This is as the Governor has approved the release and publication of the full report of the White Paper on the Visitation Panel that investigated the activities of the Management of the institution.

Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, who disclosed this during a press briefing on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting in Umuahia, said the Governor had also approved a new Management team and Governing Council for the university.

According to him, the new appointments will take effect from November 1st, 2024.

Members of the new Management team include: former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Agwu. U. Agwu, Pro-Chancellor; Mrs Cathrine Uju Ifejika as Chancellor;  Dr Onwubiko Dike as member Governing Council.

Others were two Deputy Vice Chancellors, a new Bursar, four members of Senate, two members of the congregation, one member of Convocation, and a representative from the State Ministry of Tertiary Education.

The Commissioner said the approval for the release of the White Paper on the visitation panel was in line with the Governor’s determination to transform the education system and make Abia a better state.

“You are aware that the visitation panel was put in place with a view to ascertaining the problems the university has and coming up with solutions.

“The first in the series of reforms that would take place there has commenced with the appointments that  have been made.” Prince Kanu stated.
