Over 20 APC Aspirants Eye Ibadan North Seat in Upcoming Bye-election
No fewer than 20 aspirants have expressed their intention to contest the upcoming bye-election for the Ibadan North federal constituency seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC)
The federal constituency seat became vacant following the unfortunate demise of Hon. Musliudeen Olaide Akinremi, the previous occupant. Akinremi, who was serving his second term in office on the APC ticket, passed away at the age of 51 on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. He was laid to rest the following day in accordance with Islamic rites.
During a stakeholders’ meeting held on Thursday in Ibadan, the APC Chairman in Oyo State, Alhaji Olayide Abas, confirmed that over 20 individuals from within the party have shown interest in the seat.
The meeting was attended by some of the aspirants, including Olusegun Olaleye, Wale Olatunji, Adekunle Oladeji, Umar Arisekola Alao, AbdulRasaq AbdulGaniyy, Khalil Mustapha, Kamil Omotosho, Taofeek Aderogba, Idris Babatunde Lapade, and Musibau Ayinla.
Abas expressed his satisfaction that the party had a pool of qualified candidates vying for the position but acknowledged that the large number of aspirants had created some tension within the party.
He emphasized the importance of cooperation among party members, saying, “We are aware that about 20 members of the APC in Ibadan North Federal Constituency have indicated their interest to emerge as the candidate of our party in the anticipated bye-election. Each of these aspirants is more than qualified to represent the constituency in the Green Chamber.”
He assured that the process of selecting the candidate would be fair, but urged all stakeholders to work together. “Ibadan North Federal Constituency cannot afford to have a representative whose voice would not be heard on account of party inferiority, which is another reason why we need an APC candidate to return to that seat.”
The APC Chairman assured that party leaders, aspirants, and other concerned groups are ready to collaborate and ensure a smooth process in selecting the party’s candidate.
