“Oyetola Wants to Make Osun Ungovernable” – Timi Frank Warns President Tinubu
Comrade Timi Frank, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to urgently rein in the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the APC operatives causing unrest in Osun State. Frank’s appeal comes amidst violent clashes between the APC and PDP factions over control of local government councils, which have resulted in loss of life.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Frank condemned the ongoing violence, which flared up earlier this week, following a Court of Appeal ruling that both parties interpreted differently. While Governor Adeleke of the PDP insisted the sacked local council chairmen should not return to office, Oyetola, the former APC governor, argued that the ruling should be enforced. This disagreement ignited deadly clashes between party loyalists.
Frank warned that Oyetola’s apparent goal was to destabilize Osun State to create a pretext for declaring a state of emergency, thus blocking Governor Adeleke’s ability to govern. He pointed out that APC figures, including National Secretary Dr. Ajibola Basiru, have openly called for a state of emergency, citing the violence and accusing PDP supporters of being behind attacks.
“Their real objective is to cause so much chaos that the federal government has no choice but to step in and declare a state of emergency,” Frank asserted. He warned that this would be a strategic move to sabotage Adeleke’s second-term chances, knowing full well that if elections were held today, Adeleke would still triumph.
Frank stressed the need for President Tinubu to act, despite Osun being his home state, to prevent further destabilization caused by Oyetola and APC thugs. He emphasized that if the situation worsens, both Oyetola and Tinubu, as Commander-in-Chief, would be held accountable.
Frank also accused Oyetola of using federal might to fuel disorder in the state and criticized his administration for leaving Osun without notable development during his tenure. By contrast, he lauded Adeleke for his significant strides in just two years, calling on the people of Osun to stand firmly behind their elected governor.
He warned that APC’s aggressive tactics and impunity, which bypass the electoral process in favor of violence, threaten the very foundations of Nigerian democracy. Frank urged the people of Osun to resist intimidation and safeguard the democratic process by rejecting Oyetola’s destabilizing agenda.
