Paramilitary: FG grants 35 percent recruitment slots to women

As part of its determined efforts at gender mainstreaming, the Federal Government has set aside 35 percent of all recruitment slots into the paramilitary services under the Ministry of Interior.

Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo disclosed this at a special media parley on Friday in Abuja as part of events marking his first anniversary in office.

The services are the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service NIS, Federal Fire Service FFS and the Nigeria Correctional Service NCoS.

“We want to give our women 35 percent recruitment quota across all our services. Career development management of these paramilitary agencies is part of our focus”, the minister said.

Agreement with NFF

Tunji-Ojo also announced that the ministry has completed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU with the Nigeria Football Federation NFF, with a view to ensuring the overall development of inmates of the nation’s custodial centres.

“We have also cemented a partnership with the Nigeria Football Federation NFF aimed at rehabilitating inmates within our Custodial Centres through football, as part of our broader strategy to use the transformative power of sports to foster discipline, teamwork, and personal growth among inmates, providing them with a constructive outlet for their energy, thereby reducing recidivism. Through this innovative approach, we are reinforcing our commitment to rehabilitation, ensuring that our correctional centres truly offer a second chance for those willing to transform their lives”, he stated.
