Pay Osun Job Centre staff their salary arrears — CSO to Gov Adeleke
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has been reminded to ensure the payment of 12 months’ salary arrears of workers of Osun Job Center.
The call was contained in a statement by the Osun Civil Society Coalition, OCSC released on Friday.
The statement was issued in Osogbo by the coalition Chairman, Waheed Lawal and made available by its Spokesperson, Emmanuel Olowu.
The administration it was gathered shut down the operations of the centre immediately after coming to power in the state.
Lawal said the statement made by the Osun government that the present administration did not inherit any Job Centre and workers were contract staff held no water.
He maintained that the Osun Job Center workers were paid their November and December 2023 salaries by the Adeleke administration.
” If the workers of the Job Centre were contract staff then official communication should have taken place for their disengagement.”
He maintained that “the government did not inform any worker of their disengagement and it is assumed that they are still actively engaged.
”Adeleke administration is liable to the payment of their salaries,” he said.
Lawal further said the fact that somebody is a contract staff does not mean the employer treats them shabbily and they are entitled to dignity of labour and decency.
“The Osun Job Centre staff were engaged with a formal letter. Courtesy and rules of engagement also demand that you communicate with them officially when their service is no longer needed.
”It is assumed that the workers are still actively engaged because the workers received their Salaries for November and December of the same year.”
Lawal, however, called on the Governor to release the salaries of the workers since he had demonstrated his compassion for the welfare of the general workforce of the state
