The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a deliberate plot to undermine the opposition party, allegedly in an effort to establish a totalitarian one-party rule in Nigeria. The PDP claims that the APC is collaborating with its internal agents to fabricate stories about the forgery of its electoral guidelines.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, responded to media reports suggesting that some PDP officials were being questioned over an alleged case of forgery concerning its Primary Election Guidelines.
“The PDP has become aware of misleading reports that suggest our Primary Election Guidelines have been compromised through forgery. We categorically deny these allegations and state that our guidelines remain intact and uncompromised,” Ologunagba stated.
He went on to accuse certain individuals, allegedly acting as agents of the APC, of promoting these falsehoods to create scandal and damage the integrity of the PDP’s internal processes. Ologunagba expressed the party’s shock at the level of desperation from these individuals, allegedly supported by a high-ranking APC official, who had previously vowed to destroy the PDP and facilitate the entrenchment of a totalitarian one-party system in Nigeria.
“The PDP is appalled by the attempts of these disgruntled individuals, with backing from certain APC elements, to use police harassment and intimidation against our members. They are trying to drag the police and a magistrate court into our internal matters despite clear rulings from higher courts, including the Supreme Court, stating that internal party affairs fall outside the jurisdiction of the judiciary,” Ologunagba said.
He reassured PDP members and supporters that the party remains undeterred by these alleged efforts to destabilize it. The PDP reiterated its commitment to resisting any tactics aimed at emasculating opposition, undermining Nigeria’s democracy, and imposing an oppressive one-party regime.
“The PDP stands strong and will continue to reject any attempts to weaken it. Our Primary Election Guidelines are intact, and the reports about forgery are completely false and should be disregarded,” Ologunagba concluded.
