PDP Acting Chairman Alleges BoT Members’ Role in Party Crisis
Umar Damagum, the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused some party leaders, including members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), of being complicit in the ongoing crisis within the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). Damagum warned that actions from certain party leaders were threatening the success of the upcoming zonal congresses and undermining unity within the party.
Damagum Accuses Party Leaders of Fueling PDP’s NWC Crisis
Speaking with responsibility, Damagum revealed that part of the internal conflict within the NWC is driven by leaders who should be working to unite the party. “We must look inwards and search our consciences. This party is dear to all of us; it is the only thing we have,” Damagum stated, calling out those who have contributed to the party’s current challenges. He also highlighted instances where some members of the NWC were contacted by other party leaders without his knowledge, adding to the tension within the party.
PDP Leaders Urged to Put Party Unity Above Personal Interests Amid Crisis
Despite the ongoing difficulties, Damagum reiterated that the PDP remains Nigeria’s only hope and urged leaders to put personal interests aside for the greater good of the party. He also spoke of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which has been postponed three times, stressing the importance of convening the NEC to address the party’s pressing issues.

In a related development, Chairman of the BoT, Adolphus Wabara, expressed his disappointment over the crisis within the NWC and emphasized the need for unity. Wabara urged the NWC to honor its commitment to convene the NEC meeting as scheduled for February 2025, noting that the meeting would serve as a platform to reaffirm the party’s shared values of unity, discipline, and progress. He also reminded party members of the importance of electing credible leaders during the zonal congresses.
The calls for unity and decisive action come at a critical time as the PDP works to overcome internal challenges and prepare for key elections.
