PDP Bids Peter Obi to ‘Come Home’ — Can He Forgive and Forget?
The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has publicly appealed to Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, to return to the PDP fold.
Obi had previously defected to the Labour Party after feeling his presidential ambitions could not be realized within the PDP.
The appeal came after an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday, where party leaders reviewed the state of the party and strategized for the future.
In a communique signed by PDP State Chairman Chidi Chidebe, the committee warned that alliances with ideologically incompatible political groups under the guise of coalitions were unlikely to succeed.
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP,” Chidebe said.
He assured that former members would be welcomed back warmly to join the collective effort toward a better Nigeria.
Chidebe urged the Anambra electorate to support the party’s candidates, Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate Francis Okeke, in the upcoming elections. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
In other business, the SEC unanimously nominated Chief Clems Ezike to fill the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State. Chidebe further urged the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, led by Chief Ali Odefa, to recognize and transmit this nomination to the national secretariat.
