“PDP Crisis Deepens: Anyanwu Alerts Security Agencies Over Threats to Peace”
The National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, has raised alarms over a potential threat to the country’s peace and security, calling on security agencies to take immediate action.
In a petition dated February 1, 2025, addressed to the Department of State Security (DSS), the National Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, Anyanwu accused PDP governors of provoking chaos by endorsing Sunday Udo-Okoye as the National Secretary. He stressed that their actions were in violation of the ongoing legal proceedings surrounding the matter.
Anyanwu specifically pointed to a statement made by the PDP Governors Forum during their meeting in Asaba, Delta State, on January 31, 2025, where they advised the National Working Committee (NWC) to implement a ruling by the Enugu Court of Appeal, which had declared Udo-Okoye as the valid National Secretary of the PDP. He highlighted that an appeal against the ruling had already been filed in the Supreme Court, and a Court of Appeal order issued on January 13, 2025, directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending further legal determination.
“The police must be aware of the status quo order and take appropriate action to prevent the unlawful implementation of the advice issued by the governors,” Anyanwu wrote. He accused the governors of ignoring the legal position and claimed that they had been misled by Udo-Okoye’s sponsors, who are allegedly under investigation for forging PDP guidelines to secure the controversial judgments.
Anyanwu further criticized Udo-Okoye’s actions on January 29, 2025, when he allegedly led a violent intrusion into the PDP National Secretariat, disrupting a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting with hired thugs. Anyanwu labeled the incident as unlawful, a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the judiciary, and warned that any attempt to implement the governors’ advice would spark chaos.
“The move to recognize Udo-Okoye is an affront to the judiciary,” Anyanwu continued. “It will destabilize the party and possibly the entire country, as it disregards the ongoing court proceedings.”
He appealed to security agencies to intervene, urging the National Working Committee of PDP to respect the court’s decision and refrain from any action that could escalate tensions. Anyanwu insisted that he remains the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP until a court ruling determines otherwise.
“My right as a lawful citizen is to seek justice against a judgment fraudulently obtained,” he said, urging all parties involved to conduct themselves in accordance with the law for the sake of peace and safety.
He concluded his petition by calling on authorities to prevent any further moves that could incite violence or unrest, stressing that any violation of the court’s directive would be met with firm resistance.
The situation within the PDP has intensified as the legal battle over Udo-Okoye’s appointment continues to divide the party, with Anyanwu vowing to defend his position as the legitimate National Secretary until the court decides.
