PDP Hit Again as Governor Umo Eno Officially Moves to APC

In a stunning political development, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during a high-profile ceremony on Friday, June 6, at the Government House in Uyo, drawing the attention of political heavyweights and signaling a major shift in South-South politics.

Governor Eno, elected under the PDP banner in 2023, declared that he had decided to “progressively move to the APC,” confirming he had already submitted his resignation letter to his PDP ward chairperson prior to the event.

The occasion was attended by a host of prominent APC leaders and governors from across the country, including:

  • Hope Uzodimma, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum

  • Monday Okpebholo, Edo State

  • Francis Nwifuru, Ebonyi State

  • Bassey Otu, Cross River State

  • Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State

  • Dapo Abiodun, Ogun State

  • Sheriff Oborevwori, Delta State

Governor Eno’s defection marks a significant blow to the PDP in the South-South region, making him the second governor in the zone to abandon the party in less than two months—following closely on the heels of Governor Oborevwori’s own switch to the APC.

With this move, the APC continues to consolidate influence in a region historically dominated by the PDP, raising new questions about the political future of Nigeria’s oil-rich South-South.
