PDP Loses Legislative Seat in Abia as Lawmaker Joins Labour Party
In a significant political shift in Abia State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has lost a key legislative seat in the State House of Assembly to the Labour Party (LP). Dennis Rowland Chinwendu, the representative for Isiala Ngwa South constituency, officially joined the LP during a session in the Assembly on Tuesday. This move comes just a week after he was suspended by his local PDP ward leaders due to allegations of anti-party activities, including endorsing Governor Alex Otti for a second term.
Chinwendu’s decision is particularly noteworthy, as he represents the same constituency as Governor Otti, fueling speculations that his defection might be part of a larger strategy to safeguard his political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
When approached for a comment, the Publicity Secretary of PDP in Abia, Eric Ikwuagwu, claimed that the party was unaware of Chinwendu’s move to LP. He suggested that the suspension, orchestrated by Chinwendu himself, was merely a tactic to justify his defection.
