PDP Supporters Condemn Attempted Assassination of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman

The Northwest Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Supporters Group has condemned in strong terms the alleged attempted assassination of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District. The group described the incident as a “brazen attempt to murder democracy in broad daylight” and a political move “taken too far” against the lawmaker.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PDP Supporters called on security agencies, particularly the Police and Department of State Security (DSS), to launch an urgent investigation into the matter and uncover the individuals responsible for the attack. They stressed the gravity of the incident, which they believe was aimed at eliminating the senator due to his political stature and achievements in the state.

“We are aware that Senator Usman is a highly influential political leader in Kaduna State, known for his contributions to the well-being of his constituents. This has made certain groups uneasy and displeased with his growing popularity and accomplishments. Unfortunately, this dissatisfaction has apparently led them to take drastic measures to harm or even eliminate him,” the group stated.

Engr. Sanusi Sarki, the spokesperson for the PDP Supporters in the Northwest, further emphasized the need for political leaders to be security-conscious while fulfilling their constitutional duties. He underlined that such acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

The group also urged the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to ensure that a thorough investigation into the assassination attempt is conducted promptly.

In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State has ordered a full-scale investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.
