“PDP Won’t Die”—Wike Rallies Stakeholders Amid Party Turmoil
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not collapse, despite ongoing internal crises.
Wike made the remarks on Monday evening in Abuja while hosting key party figures under the banner of “Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP.”
Among those in attendance were former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, ex-Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, and several current and former lawmakers, along with zonal and state executives.
Addressing the gathering, Wike emphasized the commitment of the attendees to the party’s survival.
“Everyone here is committed to the PDP—not just by speaking on TV or in newspapers, but through action at every level,” he said.
Reflecting on the controversial role of the G5 Governors during the 2023 elections, Wike stated:
“Whether you like us or hate us, the truth is that if the G5 had not made the decision we did, this country would be in crisis today. The right thing had to be done—regardless of who benefited from it—and we still stand by that decision.”
He lamented that the party ignored earlier warnings and has continued to act in ways that contradict its constitution.
“If the party had listened, we wouldn’t be in this mess. As an opposition party, we must stop the impunity. Our role is to unify and rebuild, not alienate.”
Wike concluded with a strong caution:
“Let us not allow greed and ego to destroy our party.”
