PDP’s Sunday Ude-Okoye Set to Assume National Secretary Position Following Court’s Ruling
Sunday Ude-Okoye, the South East Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader, has expressed his readiness to assume the role of the party’s National Secretary. This follows a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal on December 20, 2024, which ousted Senator Samuel Anyanwu from the position. Ude-Okoye affirmed his compliance with the court’s order, stating that his ascension would take place within 24 hours, as mandated by the court.
Ude-Okoye emphasized that his mandate has the backing of the PDP governors and leaders from the South East region, noting that his rise to the office was based on a resolution made by regional leaders last year. He also expressed confidence that his position would be upheld, despite Anyanwu’s appeal to the Supreme Court, which has yet to grant a stay of execution.
“No PDP governor is against this judgment,” Ude-Okoye affirmed, adding that the party’s leadership supports the court’s ruling. He reiterated that no authority, except the Supreme Court, could overrule the decision.
Ude-Okoye explained that his immediate priority would be to ensure the timely convening of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, to fulfill his duties effectively as the National Secretary.
