Petroleum Tanker Drivers Call for Timely Completion of Federal Road Repairs, Raise CNG Concerns
The Petroleum Tanker Drivers Branch of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (PTD-NUPENG) has called on the federal government to immediately begin repairs on the federal highways that have been earmarked for funding.
The union expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the commencement of the highway repair projects, despite the government’s approval of substantial funding for the task. In June and October, the Federal Executive Council approved N42.4 billion and N740 billion, respectively, for the repair of key federal roads.
At the end of its quarterly National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Benin, Edo State, PTD-NUPENG issued a communique, urging the relevant federal agencies to ensure that contractors expedite the road repairs before the rainy season begins. The union emphasized the importance of ensuring that Nigerians receive value for their taxes and public funds.
Additionally, the union voiced its concerns over its exclusion from the current Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) scheme, which has been an initiative of the present administration. In the communique signed by Comrades Augustine Egbon, National Chairman, and Oluchi Chinagorom, National Secretary, PTD-NUPENG called for greater inclusion in national energy initiatives that directly impact their sector.
