The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of Odukaye Kunle, a father accused of brutally assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, in the Otta area of Ogun State. This was disclosed through an official statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Olumuyiwa Adejobi, which was also shared with SaharaReporters.
The incident gained nationwide attention after a disturbing viral video surfaced, showing Kunle violently striking his son during an argument with his wife. The chilling footage captured Boluwatife, a toddler, attempting to embrace his father, only to be forcefully hit so hard that he was thrown into the air and crashed to the ground.
The shocking incident sparked public outrage, with many condemning the violent behavior. Adejobi, who had initially addressed the incident via social media, expressed deep concern over the father’s uncontrolled rage, stressing the destructive nature of anger. “Anger is evil and destructive. Do you know that the young boy, Boluwatife, who was brutalized by his biological father in the viral video, wanted to even hug his dad to show affection?” Adejobi wrote. “The innocent boy was severely maltreated because of anger. Let’s always manage our anger no matter the provocation.”
The police have since taken swift action, confirming that Odukaye Kunle has been apprehended. In an update, Adejobi stated that both the mother and the child would receive medical attention at the police medical center in Otta, with the Officer in Charge (OC) of Medical, Ogun State, being dispatched to the location for further assistance.
Kunle is set to face charges in court on Monday, as authorities continue their efforts to ensure justice for the boy. Adejobi expressed gratitude for the support shown by the public and praised the efforts of Ogun State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their dedication to holding Kunle accountable.
“We commend the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and his team for their commitment to ensuring that the boy gets justice. We appreciate you all for your concerns as well,” Adejobi added.
