Police can continue to hold Speed Darlington in Detention Notwithstanding Court Order – Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq
In a surprising twist to the ongoing saga of musician Speed Darlington’s detention, lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., who initially intervened to secure the artist’s release, has now taken a different stance. Olajengbesi, a legal practitioner, in a facebook post, stated that the police could continue to hold Speed Darlington despite a court order directing them to charge him within 48 hours or release him unconditionally.
The lawyer’s remarks come as the controversy over Speed Darlington’s detention on defamation allegations, reportedly filed by popular musician Burna Boy, continues to dominate public discourse.
Olajengbesi initially played a key role in securing Speed Darlington’s release after his first arrest. In a detailed account, he revealed that he was contacted by the musician’s lawyer, Stanley, and activist Omoyele Sowore, who described the arrest as an abuse of power. Alongside activist Deji Adeyanju, Olajengbesi worked to mediate between the parties involved.
However, Olajengbesi expressed frustration at the artist’s conduct during a reconciliation meeting with Burna Boy and police officials. According to him, Speed Darlington’s cavalier demeanor during the meeting worsened the situation, nearly derailing attempts to resolve the matter amicably.
