Police Crack Down on Theft Ring Involving NBC Guard in Sokoto

The Sokoto Police Command has arrested Musbahu Auwal, a security guard at the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) Zonal Office in Sokoto, for allegedly conspiring with others to steal office materials and equipment.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai. According to the statement, the theft was reported on January 17, 2025, when Ladan Muhammad, the Zonal Director of NBC in Sokoto, filed a complaint at the Uguwar Rogo Police Station around 2:50 PM.

Muhammad reported that unknown individuals had stolen several items from the NBC office in the Gagi area of Sokoto. Upon receiving the report, police officers, led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), visited the scene and confirmed that multiple items were missing, including a three-kilovolt inverter, three 600-kilovolt inverter batteries, a fridge compressor, a brand-new tyre for an office bus, and a 32-inch LG television.

As investigations progressed, Musbahu Auwal was invited for questioning. He confessed to conspiring with Ismaila Ahmad from the Nakasare area to steal the items. Further inquiries led to the arrest of two other suspects, Yahuza Tukur and Abdulrahman Abbas, also from Nakasare, who helped conceal the stolen goods.

Three additional suspects—Basiru Lawali from the Kuffa area, Murtala Tijani from Kwanni, and Abubakar Umar from Gangaren Kuffa—were apprehended for receiving the stolen items. All the stolen goods were recovered by the police.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Musa, commended the officers involved in the operation and praised the public for their cooperation. He urged citizens to continue supporting the police for improved service delivery and reassured the public that the suspects would be thoroughly prosecuted.
