Police, LG chairmen disagree over reported killing of 37 in fresh Benue attack
There is a cloud of confusion over the number of residents killed in a fresh attack in Logo and Katsina-Ala local government areas of Benue State.
Reports said no fewer than 30 people were killed in some communities across the two local government areas of the state by the suspected armed herdsmen men.
The attack which commenced on Sunday and continued till the early hours of Monday, led to the recovery of 10 corpses in Kastina-Ala while 20 bodies were picked up in Logo.
Addressing journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, the Kastina-Ala LGA Chairman, Justine Shaku, said the gunmen killed a lot of people and destroyed valuable properties in his area.
Also, the Logo LGA Chairman, Clement Kav, said the attackers claimed ownership of his domain.
He said they claimed that Tombo land belongs to them.
“They attacked the Tombo council ward and killed 17 persons and injured 37,” he said.
However, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Catherine Anene, said only five bodies were recovered.
“Logo attack confirmed. Five bodies recovered,” Anene said.
