The Osun State Police Command has arrested four members of an unlawful society, also known as a cult, for attempted murder and other criminal activities.
The arrested suspects, identified as Ibrahim Gbadamosi aka Gbedu (32), Ibiyemi Saheed aka Mouth (27), Ayandiya Yusuf aka Lakaye (30), and Ogunwole Najeem aka Agali (30), were apprehended at their hideout by the Police Anti-Cultism Squad. The arrest took place on January 5, 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, during the investigation, it was revealed that the suspects were responsible for a series of violent acts. They attempted to murder Samuel Friday, a resident of Iree town, on November 12, 2024. Furthermore, on December 17, 2024, the gang invaded the premises of the Osun State Polytechnic in Iree, attacked staff members, including the School Public Relations Officer, and blocked the main entrance gate.
In addition, Ibrahim Gbadamosi (Gbedu) was found to be involved in a fatal hit-and-run incident. On the evening of December 17, 2024, he drove a Toyota Camry with registration number ABC 962 TD Abuja, striking and killing 46-year-old Toyin Adetunji before fleeing the scene. The police later apprehended him and his gang members.
Exhibits recovered from the gang include criminal charms and dry weeds suspected to be cannabis sativa.
Additionally, four other suspects were paraded for theft, conspiracy, and obtaining by trick. The suspects—Adedayo Adesanya, Olansile Abdullateef, Olalere Gbenga, and Muftau Balogun—were found with stolen items, including a Toyota Venza (registration BDG 710 H), four bags of foreign rice, twelve tuners of yam, a bunch of bananas, and various Opay cards.
The suspects have all confessed to their crimes, and investigations are ongoing. Upon conclusion, they will be charged to court.
The police command reiterated its commitment to tackling cult-related crimes and other forms of criminal activity in the state.
