President Tinubu Approves N95 Billion for Rehabilitation of Kano Dams and Key Infrastructure Projects
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a monumental N95 billion for the rehabilitation of over 16 dams in Kano, a move aimed at boosting irrigation farming and enhancing agricultural productivity. The funds will also support the construction of the State Eastern Bypass Road, which will provide a vital connection between the southern region and the city.
Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, the newly appointed Executive Director of Finance at the Hadejia River Basin Development Authority, made the announcement. He revealed that a technical committee has already been set up to assess and oversee the rehabilitation of key dams, including the Challawa Gorge Dam and the Tiga Dam.
Kwankwaso explained: “The formation of the technical committee to evaluate the dams is a critical step in maximizing these vital irrigation facilities, ultimately boosting agricultural production in Kano, in line with the objectives set forth by Hon. Minister Joseph Utsev.”
The N95 billion appropriation for the Kano dams rehabilitation was secured through the efforts of Senator Kawu Sumaila, who represents the southern part of the state. This initiative highlights President Tinubu’s commitment to the region’s development.
In addition, Kwankwaso noted that the launch of the North West Development Commission, propelled by the support of Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, would further fuel the region’s prosperity and growth, solidifying the administration’s dedication to the Kano people and the wider North West region.
