President Tinubu Extends Palliative Support to Student Leaders Nationwide
President Bola Tinubu has shown his commitment to supporting students across Nigeria by extending palliative assistance to Student Union Government (SUG) Presidents nationwide. The Special Adviser on Students Engagement to the President, Asefon Sunday, announced this move on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as part of the President’s broader support for the student community.
Tinubu’s Student Support: Rice Distribution for SUG Presidents Across Nigeria
During an event in Abuja, where rice was distributed to undergraduates, Asefon highlighted that SUG Presidents from all regions would soon receive their share of the rice. He reassured the student leaders that the food items had already arrived in Abuja and would be distributed shortly. Asefon emphasized that the rice distribution was a reflection of President Tinubu’s recognition of students as key leaders who influence the present, not just the future.
Historic Move: Tinubu Reaches Out to SUG Presidents with Special Palliative Package
Asefon elaborated on the timing of the initiative, explaining that the rice arrived in Abuja late in December 2024, which led to the decision to have SUG Presidents travel to Abuja to personally collect their share. For the first time in Nigerian history, the President is reaching out to student leaders with such support at this time of year. To manage the distribution, two SUG Presidents were selected from each region to represent their peers.
President Tinubu’s Pledge to Youth: A Step Toward Empowering Nigeria’s Future Leaders
Looking back at 2024, Asefon had previously assured that the government’s efforts to engage and support students would continue. “This is a time for Nigerian youth and students to reflect, express their thoughts, and engage with the government,” he said, adding that the government’s impact is now being felt by students and youth across the country. President Tinubu’s initiative is part of a larger vision to empower the nation’s youth and elevate their role in national development.
