President Tinubu Heads to Ghana for Key Inauguration Ceremony
On Monday, January 6, President Bola Tinubu will leave Abuja for Accra, the capital of Ghana, to attend the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama. The event, set for January 7, marks Mahama’s return to the presidency after his re-election in December 2024.
Having served as Ghana’s president from 2011 to 2017, Mahama will now succeed President Nana Akufo-Addo, who completed his second term in office. President Tinubu’s visit comes at the invitation of Mahama, who had previously visited the Nigerian leader in December 2024.
The longstanding personal bond between Tinubu and Mahama mirrors the enduring diplomatic relations between their nations, Nigeria and Ghana. As Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, President Tinubu will join several other African leaders for the momentous occasion.
Accompanying President Tinubu on this diplomatic mission will be Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, along with other senior Nigerian officials.
