Priest Cubana Chief Vows to Free Speed Darlington from Police Custody
Popular nightlife mogul Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Priest Cubana Chief, has promised to take swift action to secure the release of musician Speed Darlington, who is currently in police custody. The announcement came on January 5, 2025, as Cubana Chief Priest took to Instagram to reveal his plans. He wrote: “Tomorrow we coming for you, Akpi Nwamama (Speed Darlington). Monday is almost here. Make we now show power.”
Speed Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was arrested by Nigeria Police Force operatives in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, on charges of cyberstalking musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy. Prior to his arrest in Owerri, the controversial figure had been detained in Lagos, transferred to Abuja, and later placed under the care of the Inspector-General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team in the Guzape area of Abuja.
In the midst of Speed Darlington’s arrest, Cubana Chief Priest also addressed another ongoing issue that sparked social media discussions. A video showing Burna Boy gifting $30,000 to a phone repairer went viral on January 4, 2025. The recipient of the money claimed to be a relative of Cubana Chief Priest, which fueled speculation about family ties.
Cubana Chief Priest quickly took to social media to clarify the situation. He denied that the man was his biological brother and explained that he has only one biological older brother and two sisters, all of whom are doing well. He wrote on his Instagram story, stating: “Alleged brother! Skit makers f**kin oppressors. Dem don kneel am down, you go still bend am down because the pain must reach everybody, but my own be say no alert oh no cash oh I wan just dey sure say my village boy collect for real. Na still my glorious glory. Make una show workings; na musician you fit even give am verse. I have only one biological big brother & two kid sisters. They ain’t doing so bad. Regardless, I owe them nothing, na my money, make everybody find their own.”
The video has sparked a flurry of debate on social media, with many questioning the expectations placed on public figures to support extended family members and the impact of viral narratives on their reputations. Cubana Chief Priest’s clarification has done little to quell the conversation, as the ongoing drama between Burna Boy and himself continues to make waves in the public eye.
