Prince Ayobami Ladigbolu Reflects on Alaafin Contest, Congratulates New Monarch
Prince Ayobami Ladigbolu, a prominent contender for the Alaafin of Oyo throne, has shared his reflections on the competitive journey for the revered crown. In a statement posted on Facebook Tuesday, he congratulated the newly crowned Alaafin, Oba Abimbola Owoade, acknowledging his ascension as divinely ordained.
Looking back on the intense race, Ladigbolu expressed some disappointment over the shift in loyalty from some of his initial supporters. He attributed this change to financial constraints, revealing how some who had first backed his candidacy eventually moved toward other contenders when financial support became a challenge.
“I learned the value of money in one’s life from the race for the crown of Alaafinate,” Ladigbolu said. “When I needed help, those I had once supported in their businesses turned away from me. It was a harsh lesson, but I hold no bitterness. It’s all part of the journey.”
Despite these challenges, the prince expressed gratitude to the Agbonhin Sanda Oridota family and the broader Ladigbolu section of the Agunloye royal family for nominating and supporting him in his bid for the throne.
In his tribute to the newly appointed Alaafin, Ladigbolu declared, “I congratulate Oba Aláàfin Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the new Alaafin of Ọ̀yọ́ town. He was chosen by God Almighty. Ọba Akeem Abimbola Owoade has been destined to take the throne. I am happy for him, and the entire Ladigbolu family celebrates with him.”
The prince also extended his heartfelt thanks to those who stood by him throughout the race, including his family, friends, and supporters.
Ladigbolu praised the camaraderie he shared with other contestants, particularly Prince Kolade Tunde Sanni Oladigbolu and Prince Muideen Adekunle Oladigbolu, calling them “blood brothers.”
Finally, Ladigbolu urged the people of Oyo to unite behind the new king, despite any lingering controversies. “I urge the natives of Oyo town to support the new king,” he said. “Kingship contests are never without challenges, but we must manage these and come together to build the Oyo and Yorùbá land we all dream of.”
