“Prof Ibrahim Adeyanju: How PCI DSS Recertification Enhances Nigeria’s Digital Security”

Prof Ibrahim Adeyanju, the Managing Director of Nigeria’s Galaxy Backbone (GBB), has revealed that the agency’s recent recertification on Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a significant move to bolster Nigeria’s defense against financial cyber fraud.

In a statement released by GBB’s spokesperson, Chidi Okpala, on Monday, Prof Adeyanju explained that the recertification would specifically strengthen the country’s digital infrastructure, especially within the financial sector. He emphasized that the certification reflects GBB’s continued dedication to safeguarding sensitive financial data and preventing cyber threats.

The announcement comes after a concerning report in November 2024 by Check Point Software Technologies, which revealed that Nigerian businesses faced an alarming 3,759 cyber attack attempts every week. The report highlighted the vulnerability of the country’s financial sector to cybercrime.

To address this, Prof Adeyanju assured that Galaxy Backbone is committed to providing reliable digital solutions for both government agencies and corporate sectors. He emphasized that the PCI DSS recertification is a testament to the agency’s commitment to securing financial transactions, combating cyber threats, and supporting the country’s digital economy.

“As an organization at the forefront of digital transformation, securing PCI DSS recertification reinforces our commitment to data security and compliance with international standards,” Adeyanju said. “Our partners in financial services can continue to rely on GBB for secure, resilient, and high-performance infrastructure that meets global regulatory requirements.”

This milestone marks an important step in Nigeria’s efforts to build a safer, more secure digital space, especially in the face of rising cyber threats.
