“Rano Slams Defectors from NNPP to APC as Politically Ineffective”
Abubakar Adamu Rano, the Managing Director of Kano State Radio, has strongly criticized members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He dismissed these individuals as politically ineffective, claiming they would have little to contribute in the upcoming elections.
In a revealing interview with Kadaura24, a Kano-based online news outlet, Rano stated that the politicians Barau Jibrin claims to have recruited from NNPP’s Kwankwasiyya faction are not equipped to make a significant impact on the political landscape.
“If you observe closely, those whom Barau Jibrin claims to have brought over from NNPP are not effective; they won’t be able to achieve anything when election time arrives,” Rano said.
The managing director further pointed out that Jibrin’s attempts to recruit youth members of the Kwankwasiyya movement have faltered, as he has been unable to attract the group’s core supporters. Rano emphasized that Kwankwasiyya, at its heart, is a youth-driven movement, not a platform for individuals he described as ineffective, like those brought in by Jibrin.
“Kwankwasiyya is fundamentally a youth movement, and it’s not meant for the type of ineffective individuals that Barau Jibrin is bringing in,” he added.
Rano expressed skepticism about Jibrin’s chances of attracting key Kwankwasiyya youth leaders, mentioning figures like Salisu Yahya Hotoro and Muhammad Kosawa. “Do you think Barau can approach our vibrant youth leaders like Salisu Yahya Hotoro or Muhammad Kosawa? He wouldn’t even dare,” Rano quipped.
The Kano State Radio chief further advised Jibrin to carefully assess those introducing defectors to him, suggesting that some individuals might be manipulating him for their own benefit.
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Rano expressed unwavering confidence in the re-election prospects of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He boldly predicted that the governor would secure a majority vote in the forthcoming race.
“Our governor will win the 2027 election with a majority vote,” Rano concluded with assurance.
This comes on the heels of Abbas Sani Abbas, the recently dismissed Commissioner for Rural and Community Development in Kano State, joining the APC after leaving the ruling NNPP just last week.
