“Rauf Aregbesola Expelled from APC Over Anti-Party Activities”
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially expelled former Minister of Interior and ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, accusing him of anti-party activities. The decision stems from Aregbesola’s formation of a faction, initially known as The Osun Progressives and later rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus, which the party claims undermined its unity.
A letter from the APC leadership on Wednesday confirmed the expulsion, citing that Aregbesola’s actions violated Article 21 of the party’s constitution. This move follows a meeting held by the Omoluabi Caucus on Sunday, during which the faction announced its departure from the APC, blaming the party for its decline in Osun State politics.
Aregbesola’s expulsion marks the peak of a long-standing feud with the APC leadership in Osun, especially over the party’s defeat in the 2022 governorship election, where they lost to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His faction had openly criticized the party’s leadership and electoral strategies, contributing to the deepening divide.
Political analysts are now speculating that Aregbesola may seek alliances with opposition forces or even form a new political movement in preparation for future elections. The Omoluabi Caucus, in particular, has already hinted at potential alliances outside the APC.
Meanwhile, the Osun PDP is reportedly eager to welcome Aregbesola’s supporters, viewing them as valuable assets for upcoming political battles. This latest development is expected to significantly reshape the political dynamics in the state, with new alliances and shifting loyalties in the air.
