Remi Omowaiye Claims Narrow Escape from Assassination in Osun Violence
Remi Omowaiye, the Executive Director of Projects Implementation at the Federal Housing Authority, has accused Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke of orchestrating the political crisis currently destabilizing the state. Omowaiye alleged that Adeleke deliberately plotted to set the state on fire, referencing the deadly violence that recently occurred in the region.
The crisis escalated on Monday when clashes erupted between supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over control of the government secretariats. At least eight people were killed during the violent confrontation, which began when elected local government officials from the APC resumed work at the various council secretariats.
Speaking on the matter during an appearance on Arise TV on Wednesday, Omowaiye recounted his harrowing experience during the unrest. He revealed that he narrowly escaped death as his vehicle was riddled with bullets during the attack. According to Omowaiye, one of his security advisers and his driver were both shot in the incident.
“It is unfortunate that Governor Ademola Adeleke wants to burn down Osun State,” Omowaiye stated. He explained that a clear court ruling had allowed APC members to resume at the councils, and he had traveled to Ilesha to join party associates. On his way back to Oshogbo, he encountered a large group of PDP supporters, whom he described as “hoodlums.”
Omowaiye then went to the Area Commander of Ilesha to report what he had observed, and was advised that action would be taken. He proceeded to the APC party Secretariat in Ilesha to address his supporters, urging them to disperse and return the following day due to the tense situation.
As he made his way back to Oshogbo, Omowaiye’s vehicle came under attack. He shared, “Right in front of the Secretariat, my vehicle was riddled with bullets. One of my security advisers was shot and my driver’s was also shot. I narrowly escaped.”
The violent clash in Osun continues to draw attention, with Omowaiye’s allegations adding fuel to the already volatile political environment in the state.
