“Remove My Name or Face Legal Action!” — NBA Nyanya-Karu Member, John Uroko Esq, Explodes Over Fraudulent NBA Election Appeal filed in His Name

A lawyer and member of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Nyanya-Karu Branch, Mr. Joseph John Uroko, has issued a stern disclaimer against the use of his name and signature in a petition he claims to know nothing about.

In a strongly worded statement, Uroko has threatened legal action against the author of the appeal, Mr. Peter Sunday Umoru, demanding the immediate removal of his name from the list of signatories to the controversial petition submitted to the NBA Election Appeal Committee.

The appeal in question, dated June 5, 2025, and titled “Appeal for the Review of the Electoral Committee Reports on Cleared Candidates for the Election of Officers into Nyanya-Karu Branch / Appeal for Disqualification of Cleared Candidates,” has become the subject of widespread outrage within the branch. Multiple members have already disowned it, alleging fraudulent inclusion of their names and personal data without their knowledge or consent. Uroko, in his statement, made it clear that he neither participated in nor authorized any such appeal.

He recounted that in April 2025, he visited the office of the outgoing Chairman of the branch, Mr. Augustine Ibolo, to collect his NBA seal. During the visit, he was presented with a form, which he was told was merely to pass a vote of confidence on the chairman’s administration. Acting in good faith, he signed the document strictly for that purpose.

He expressed shock and dismay upon discovering that his name and signature had been repurposed and attached to a formal appeal to the NBA Election Appeal Committee, alleging electoral malpractice and calling for the disqualification of cleared candidates. Uroko has now distanced himself entirely from the petition and demanded that his name and signature be immediately expunged from the appeal.

John Uroko Esq’s disclaimer adds to the growing list of disclaimers against the appeal, which is now under fire for widespread allegations of fraud, misrepresentation, and data privacy violations. At the heart of the storm is Mr. Peter Sunday Umoru, the young lawyer who authored the appeal, and Mr. Augustine Ibolo, the outgoing Chairman of the branch, who has been accused of releasing members’ confidential information collected for unrelated purposes.

Several other lawyers, including prominent members of the branch, have issued similar disclaimers, accusing Umoru and Ibolo of professional misconduct and calling on the NBA Appeal Committee to refer the matter to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC).
