A video has emerged online showing Adigun Adekunle, a second-term member of the House of Representatives, struggling to move a motion during a plenary session. The video, broadcast by TVC and shared on X, captures the lawmaker, who has served for at least six years, having difficulty correctly presenting a motion to revoke a resolution related to a previous motion he had made.
Adekunle, who represents the Ibadan North-East/South-East federal constituency under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is seen in the video fumbling with his words while attempting to address the House. “Recognition coming from, the list coming from, department of eeh…; okay, I arise to move a motion as decision moved as amended. Thank you, Mr Speaker. Okay, Mr Speaker, sorry sir, I arise, I move to motion to rescind the resolution on first motion,” he stated.
Speaker Tajudeen Abbas quickly intervened to assist Adekunle, but by then, the video had already gone viral on social media, raising concerns about the lawmaker’s ability to effectively represent his constituents.
Social media users have since weighed in with mixed reactions. Some questioned his competence, while others criticized the electoral process. One user, Adeleye Tolu, tweeted: “Stop electing or hand picking mórons but Una no dey ever hear word… in a country full of unemployed intelligence graduates, how is this düñcë elected?”
Another user, Harry, remarked: “This is probably the first time he’s speaking at the National Assembly. At the end of the day, he will carry millions and go home. I guess he’s even better, some will be there for 4 years and won’t move any motion, won’t speak, won’t argue. ‘Anything they talk, it is OKAY by me.’”
Patrick Psalm also commented, “Baba won’t understand one thing until his tenure runs out. It was practically dictated to him, but ‘for where?’ We go continue to vote based on who share money pass.”
The video has sparked a broader discussion on the competency of elected representatives and the impact of their actions on public trust.
