“Rep Sani Abdulraheem Fully Backs LNG and CNG Plants in Ajaokuta”
The member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Sani Egidi Abdulraheem, has expressed strong support for the establishment of five Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) plants in his constituency, calling the project a significant game-changer for the region, Kogi State, and Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday in Lokoja, Abdulraheem emphasized that the project would bring far-reaching benefits to Ajaokuta, particularly in the areas of job creation, economic growth, and environmental sustainability. He highlighted the creation of employment opportunities for the youth both during construction and once the plants are operational, noting that this would help reduce unemployment and stimulate the local economy.
The lawmaker outlined additional benefits, including enhanced access to clean and affordable energy, which he said would power homes, businesses, and industries more efficiently, thus boosting economic productivity. He also pointed out that the project aligns with Nigeria’s energy transition goals, promoting the use of cleaner-burning fuels and contributing to the country’s environmental goals.
However, Abdulraheem expressed surprise that the Ajaokuta Steel Company appeared unaware of the project and its upcoming groundbreaking ceremony on January 30, 2025. Despite this, he assured the project’s developers of his full support and affirmed that the local community was on board with the initiative.
“The people of the community, where the Steel Company is situated, are in full support of this LNG project. It is vital that we promote their welfare and well-being, and this project is a step in the right direction,” said Abdulraheem. He urged the Ajaokuta Steel Company’s management to cease politicizing the project and instead focus on facilitating its success for the benefit of the people.
The Rep emphasized that the project would also attract investments, create local business opportunities, and contribute to the growth of the region’s economy. He reassured stakeholders that the community was fully mobilized and ready for the groundbreaking ceremony as planned.
“I want to reiterate my unwavering support for this project,” Abdulraheem concluded, “and I am confident that it will bring numerous benefits to Ajaokuta. We look forward to its successful completion and are fully committed to ensuring it moves forward seamlessly.”
