“Rep. Wole Oke Condemns Violence in Esa Oke, Urges Justice for Victims”

Wole Oke, the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has expressed deep sorrow over the deadly violence that broke out in Esa Oke on Monday, resulting in fatalities and injuries to community members. The lawmaker also commended the swift intervention of security forces, which helped prevent further escalation of the violence.

In a statement released by the Public and Media Communication Unit of the Ijesa North Federal Constituency Office on Tuesday, Oke expressed his gratitude to the security agencies for their rapid and decisive response to the situation. “We owe gratitude to our security agencies for their prompt and decisive action,” he said.

Oke, who serves as the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, condemned the violence, emphasizing that no form of violence is justifiable. “The same blood flows in all of us. Violence is never justified. As a community and a large family, we must stop this senseless violence,” he declared.

He also underscored the need for justice, calling for a thorough investigation into both the immediate causes and the underlying factors that led to the incident. “Justice must prevail for the victims and their families,” he asserted, stressing that perpetrators should be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Extending his condolences to the bereaved families and those injured in the crisis, Oke expressed deep sympathy, saying, “I share in their grief. These losses are monumental for Esa-Oke and Osun State.” He urged calm and restraint, encouraging everyone to await decisive action from both state and federal authorities. He further advised those who feel aggrieved to seek lawful ways to resolve disputes.

Oke called on the aggrieved parties to approach the Governor or seek legal remedies through the courts, emphasizing that violence and self-help should never be an option. He also urged authorities to release individuals who were unjustly detained during the crisis and to provide free medical treatment to the injured.

“Rather than resorting to violence, all stakeholders must follow due process in matters of chieftaincy and traditional leadership. No life should be lost needlessly,” Oke stated. “Together, we must build a future where every life is cherished, and communities thrive in peace and harmony.”

the violence in Ido-Ayegunle on Monday was triggered by the state government’s decision to appoint Prince Timileyin Oluyemi Ajayi as the Olojudo of Ido-Ayegunle, in the Obokun local government area of Osun State. The clashes led to the tragic deaths of four individuals, the injury of 25 others, including seven police personnel, and the destruction of properties worth millions of Naira.

In response to the deadly violence, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the attacks, regardless of their social standing.
