“Rivers Elders Call for Respect, Reconciliation Between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike”
The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) Peace and Reconciliation Committee has called for mutual respect and political stability in Rivers State, urging all political parties to prioritize the wishes and welfare of the people. This call came during a closed-door meeting on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, led by Rufus George, the Chairman of the Rivers Elders Forum.
George expressed optimism about the ongoing reconciliation efforts, noting that progress had been made in resolving the political crisis within the state. He emphasized that achieving peace was possible, but it required all parties to respect the people’s mandate and the democratic process.
The main focus of the meeting was to foster unity between two key political figures in Rivers State—Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Both leaders, who have been at the center of the state’s political discord, were urged to find common ground and work towards a unified future for the people of Rivers.
In addition, George called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the matter, using his influence to facilitate a peaceful and lasting resolution to the political tension.
Niger Delta activist AnnKio Briggs voiced her support for PANDEF’s intervention, highlighting the importance of political stability in Rivers State not just for the region, but for the entire nation. She urged the committee to encourage the presidency to engage with Minister Wike in order to find a sustainable solution.
Among the prominent PANDEF delegates at the meeting were former Akwa Ibom State Governor Victor Attah (Chairman), Senator Roland Owie, Senator Emmanuel Essien, Col. Pam Ogar, Senator Stella Omu, and Engr. Dagogo Jack, all of whom stressed the need for dialogue and unity within the region.
As reconciliation efforts continue, the hope is that all parties will come together in the spirit of mutual respect, ensuring political stability and a brighter future for Rivers State and the Niger Delta region as a whole.
