Rivers Governor Fubara Signs N1.1trn Budget Into Law, Affirms Legitimacy of Oko-Jumbo-led Assembly
Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, has officially signed the 2025 Appropriation Bill of N1.1 trillion into law, while reaffirming that the state’s House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, remains the legitimate legislative body in the state.
The governor signed the bill on Thursday, just four days after it was presented to the three lawmakers led by Speaker Oko-Jumbo. Fubara’s declaration marks a significant political stance, as he emphasized that the assembly, under Oko-Jumbo’s leadership, is the authentic one in Rivers State.
Additionally, Fubara dismissed the legitimacy of 27 defected members, including Martins Amaewhule, who had switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made it clear that these lawmakers are no longer recognized as legitimate members of the state’s legislative assembly.
The signing of the N1.1 trillion budget further cements Fubara’s authority in the state, as he continues to assert his control over the political landscape despite challenges from opposing factions.
