“Rivers State Court Sentences Eze Kingsley to Death for Killing Mortuary Owner”
A Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced Eze Kingsley, a middle-aged man, to death for the murder of David Wagbara, a mortuary owner. Kingsley, who was a petroleum tanker conductor, fatally stabbed Wagbara on December 7, 2018, in Rumuosi Community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, following an argument over an obstructed entrance to Wagbara’s mortuary.
The argument began when the deceased requested that Kingsley move the tanker blocking the entrance to his business. The confrontation escalated, leading to the fatal attack.
In delivering the judgment, Justice Omah Diepreye confirmed that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt, resulting in the death sentence for Kingsley.
Court Withdraws from Attempted Murder and Cultism Case Against Dele Akpobari
In a separate case, a Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Rosemary Ibanibo, has withdrawn from hearing the case against Dele Akpobari, also known as ‘Bob Satan.’ Akpobari is accused of involvement in the attempted murder of Gani Topba, leader of the Conscience of Ogoni People (COOP), on March 12, 2023.
When the case was brought before the court, Chief Magistrate Ibanibo noted that the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case and advised the accused to seek bail at the State High Court, which has the authority to adjudicate the matter.
