“Sani Expresses Confidence in Nigerian Troops’ Ability to Defeat Terrorism”
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani expressed optimism on Saturday about the Nigerian Armed Forces’ ability to overcome the various terrorist groups threatening the nation, including bandits, ISWAP, Boko Haram, and the newly designated Lakurawa sect.
Sani highlighted the immense challenges faced by the Nigerian military, noting that no other army in Africa is as deeply involved or stretched across such multiple fronts. In a post on X, he wrote, “The Nigerian Armed Forces are fighting the ISWAP and Boko Haram in the North East, and bandits and Lakurawa terrorist group in the North West. No Army in Africa is engaged and stretched to this level. We appreciate their patriotism and sacrifices to secure our country. We shall overcome.”
His comments come after a stern warning from Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, who stated that any member of the Lakurawa terrorist group seen by Nigerian troops is as good as dead. This follows the Federal High Court’s ruling in Abuja, which officially proscribed the Lakurawa sect and similar groups, designating them as terrorist organizations.
Justice James Omotosho’s ruling, based on an application from the Attorney-General of the Federation, provides the Nigerian military with the legal authority to take action against members of the Lakurawa group. Musa confirmed that the Nigerian troops are now empowered to eliminate members of the sect under the court’s decision.
