Sanwo-Olu to present ambitious 2025 budget estimates today
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will today present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The proposed budget is expected to surpass the ₦2.267 trillion approved for 2024, signaling an ambitious financial plan for the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, disclosed this in a statement, though he did not reveal the exact figure.
“Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will present the Y2025 Appropriation Bill to the Lagos State House of Assembly on Thursday, November 21, 2025, at noon.
“The budget, themed Budget of Sustainability, is a blueprint for continuity, resilience, and prosperity for Lagosians. It is structured around five key pillars, including Infrastructure Sustainability, Economic Diversification, and Institutional Reforms,” Omotoso stated.
The 2024 budget, dubbed the Budget of Renewal, was signed into law by Governor Sanwo-Olu on January 18, 2024, with a total allocation of ₦2.267 trillion. The expenditure prioritized infrastructure, environment, education, technology, security, and public safety.
Breakdown of the 2024 Budget
Capital Expenditure: ₦1.315 trillion (58%)
Recurrent Expenditure: ₦952.4 billion (42%)
The 2024 budget included a ₦21.74 billion increment approved by the House of Assembly to support the completion of key infrastructure projects and critical interventions.
Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of effective budget implementation in driving economic growth, sustainability, and improved living standards for residents.
“The success of this Appropriation Law will be determined by how effective its implementation is in relation to the wellbeing of our citizens. This administration is committed to achieving the objectives and deliverables set out in the budget,” he remarked after signing the 2024 Appropriation Bill.
He reiterated that the 2025 budget would align with the state’s THEMES+ agenda, ensuring ongoing projects are completed to realize the vision of a “Greater Lagos.”
Sanwo-Olu also called on residents to support the government’s efforts through active civic participation and pledged transparency and accountability in the budget’s execution.
“The citizens must fulfil their civic obligations, as the effort to build the state is one that requires partnership. We pledge to deliver the greatest benefits to the greatest number of residents,” he said.
The 2025 budget presentation is expected to outline the administration’s plans for continued growth and development in Africa’s largest city.
