Senate confirms Hafsat Bakari as Director Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed the appointment of Hafsat Bakari as Director of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU.

The confirmation followed a report submitted to the Chamber by the Senate Committee Chairman on Anti-corruption and Financial Crimes, Emmanuel Memga Undende.

The Chairman explained that the nominee of President Bola Tinubu appeared for screening and has been found fit and competent, given her wealth of experience.

He disclosed that the nominee rose from a lower cadre to the top and traversed through intelligence agencies where she performed creditably, adding that there was no unsavoury report or petition in any form against her nomination.

He said: “That the Senate do receive and consider the report of the Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes on the confirmation of the nomination of Ms. Hafsat Abubakar Bakari as the Director, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU.”

In his contribution, the Senator representing Borno North Senatorial District, Mohammed Tahir Monguno, lauded the Committee for a detailed report which was made available early enough, urging the Senate to confirm the nominee based on her pedigree in service, adding that her nomination was a square peg in a square hole.

After other Senators spoke favourably on the report, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio passed the report and confirmed the nominee following the dissolution of the Chamber into the Committee of Whole.

President Bola Tinubu, in an executive communication, sought the confirmation of Hafsat Bakari as Director of NFIU.
