Senator Jimoh Ibrahim Donates N10 Million to Traders Affected by Okitipupa Market Fire

Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, representing Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has donated N10 million to traders whose businesses were affected by the recent fire at the Caring Heart market in Okitipupa, Ondo State.

Ibrahim visited the scene of the devastating fire on Thursday, accompanied by several traditional rulers from the district, to assess the damage. The fire, which broke out at midnight on December 12, destroyed fewer than 18 shops stocked with frozen foods and other goods, causing losses estimated at over N50 million.

Upon inspecting the site, the senator expressed his sympathy for the traders, acknowledging the scale of the disaster. He noted that the damage could have been minimized if there had been access to water at the market. In response, Ibrahim pledged to install a solar-powered borehole and solar-powered lamps at the market to prevent similar incidents in the future.

“I want to express my sympathy to you for the loss of your stalls and shops. I came down here with our traditional rulers immediately I was informed about the fire outbreak to come and see you and assess the gravity of the destruction,” Ibrahim said.

He continued, “I was told that you would have been able to put out the fire when it began if there had been water here. To prevent the recurrence of this development, I will come and sink a borehole here for you to use; I will also light up the market with solar lamps, which will be installed soon.”
